Meet our music director

In 2012, Dr. William Carswell became only the second Music Director and Conductor of the Masterworks Choir in its history, succeeding Founder and Conductor William B. Mills. Known for his innovative programming and thoughtful interpretations of classical and contemporary works, Dr. Carswell has expanded the repertoire of the Choir and excited our ever-growing audience with highly acclaimed performances of great choral-orchestral literature.

Meet our accompanist

2018 marks the 24th year in which Beverly Hazelwood has served as rehearsal accompanist for the Masterworks Choir. Prior to 1994 she held the position of performance organist. In September 1994, she followed the very gifted Lucy Thomas and became the rehearsal accompanist.

MEET OUR ASSISTANT MUSIC DIRECTOR

Newly appointed Assistant Music Director Kevin McCormick is a native of Rock Hill, SC. He attended York Comprehensive High School, and it was there that he was introduced to both classical music and choral singing. After a year of singing in their Concert and Men’s Choir, it was apparent that the study and performance of choral music was what he wanted to do as a career. Kevin attended Coker College where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance in 2015. At Coker he participated in Coker Singers, Coker Chamber Singers, and the Men’s Vocal Ensemble, holding leadership positions in each ensemble. As a senior, Kevin became interested in choral conducting and after a year of coaching with Dr. Will Carswell, he was hired as the director of the Men’s Vocal Ensemble at Coker. Interested in advanced training, Kevin attended Messiah University in Pennsylvania where he received a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting in 2019. He is thrilled to accept this position and looks forward to all the exciting musical opportunities ahead with the Masterworks Choir.
